Home Security Ideas – Blinds
There is a growing trend in some countries to publicise the security benefits of window blinds, this is especially important in summer where hot weather encourages people to leave windows and doors open. Statistics show that the opportunist burglar and car thief will walk the streets looking for open windows and doors before casually walking up to the open windo to see what is easily within reach.
Very often these people will carry a prop, it could be a larger envelope or a small parcel, the aim is simple to see
if any keys, money or credit cards are on window ledges and sills, the prop gives the insurance should the intending thief be challenged in that it is an easy spin to ask for an address or ‘oh sorry I got the wrong house’.
Trends
The common denominator in this growing trend is that the criminal needs to easily see if there is anyone in the room or indeed the house when they spot the open window. Blinds occlude this view and when in summer the temperature is hot and the windows are open the right blinds will allow air to enter with the advantage that it is very difficult for the opportunist to gauge whether it is safe to approach.
Generally people will not close curtains when they have a window open and in many areas people have fitted blinds in addition to curtains, it is common sense to deter the opportunist and so fitted blinds not only enhance your home they can also make it more secure.
I’ve just turned 55 and thanks to a few smart investments and my ability to hoard cash (which earned me the affectionate nickname “scrooge” by my ex-wife) I have decided to retire a little earlier than most. Why Manchester I hear you cry? I’m a northerner at heart and I’ve got a holiday home – Manchester is where I belong.
The house purchase has gone through and the one thing I always hated about moving house was installing new fixtures and fittings. After a little bit of persuasion (and a little bit of financial recompense) the previous owners were convinced into leaving all the existing blinds and light fittings in place.
My next step will be to purchase a bunch of new furniture and finding a way to spend my twilight years. Any suggestions?
